Most definitely Scott. Video conferencing and other technologies are being used right now by many mediators, especially with relatively accessible products such as Skype or Webex. These make it possible for anyone in a remote location, with reasonable Internet bandwith, to participate (through audio/video) in mediation. And, maybe in the future, telepresence technology will become more accessible, including for remote locations. (Note: telepresence which refers to a set of technologies which allow a person to feel as if they were present, to give the appearance that they were present, or to have an effect, at a location other than their true location.) There is lots of interesting things going on in the world of Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) - as per http://www.odr.info/

Very interesting questions!

I have one: Is there a future for video-conferencing mediation, especially to serve rural or out of the way places. Many medical specialists (especially psychologists) are using this to diagnose/treat patients.
